Principles of structuring the safety systems
According to the defense-in-depth concept the safety systems are provided in
the design that are intended for fulfillment of the following safetyfunctions.
Safety systems and their components provide for fulfilling the assigned functions
under all external impacts considered in the design.
Safety functions
- emergency reactor trip and keeping the reactor in the subcritical state;
- emergency heat removal from the reactor and from the spent fuel pool;
- confining the radioactive substances within the established limits;
- keeping the integrity of the reactor pressure boundary.
